The specialized workshop on enhancing the value of exported cinnamon saw the participation of agricultural experts, businesses, and representatives from many local production units.
Exploiting the advantages of the specialty cinnamon region
For a long time, Quế Trà Leng has been known as one of the cinnamon regions with outstanding quality thanks to the unique natural conditions of the high mountain area west of Đà Nẵng. With an altitude of about 1,500m above sea level, cool climate year-round, large day-night temperature swings, and thick fog cover, cinnamon trees in Trà Leng grow slower than in many other regions but yield thick bark, high essential oil content, and a distinct rich aroma.
Promoting deep processing, enhancing product value
One of the topics of interest at the workshop was the transition from selling raw cinnamon to developing deep-processed products to increase economic value.
Currently, many Ca Dong households in Trà Leng are receiving technical support to develop product lines such as cinnamon essential oil, cinnamon powder, cinnamon soap, and handicraft products from cinnamon, instead of just selling raw cinnamon bark as before. In addition, the application of deep processing technology also helps extend the product value chain, create more jobs, and increase income for people in the highlands.
Expanding the market for Trà Leng cinnamon
With its geographical indication protected since 2011 and OCOP certifications, Trà Leng cinnamon is gradually asserting its position in the specialty agricultural product market.
Notably, the emergence of the Mountain Harvest brand has opened up a new approach in building a modern distribution system, bringing Trà Leng cinnamon products closer to urban consumers and international customers. According to local orientation, in the coming time, Trà Leng will continue to develop a sustainable raw material area associated with the conservation of traditional cinnamon forests, while strengthening business connections and trade promotion for processed cinnamon products.
