In late 2020, Trà Leng became the focus of shared compassion when horrific landslides buried homes and swept away immeasurable losses. The cracks on the hillsides, the roofs submerged in mud, were once haunting memories for the local people. But time doesn't only leave behind pain. On a dry, elevated area of about 6 hectares, the Bằng La resettlement area has been built as a symbol of the highland's revival.
39 households who lost everything after the disaster now have new, spacious, and safer homes amidst the mountains. The red tiled roofs standing out against the green of the vast forest are not just an image of a new residential area, but also an affirmation of the indomitable spirit of the people of Trà Leng.
Bằng La – Where Life Begins Anew
Bằng La today has gradually emerged with the appearance of a stable and vibrant residential area. The houses are solidly built but still maintain a close connection to the traditional way of life of the highland people.
The national power grid now illuminates the village every night. Clean water is supplied to every household. Concrete roads connect the residential area with schools and community centers, replacing the slippery trails of the past.
But the greatest value of Bằng La lies not only in its infrastructure or new homes, but in the spirit of solidarity that helped its people overcome adversity. The decisive action of the government, the cooperation of the community, and the self-reliance of the people have together created a journey of revival amidst the vast mountains.
"Green Gold" Paving the Way for the Future
After the disaster, the people of Trà Leng continued to cling to the forest, protect their land, and rebuild their lives from the products of the mountains. Green cinnamon forests gradually covered the damaged hillsides. Thousands of hectares of Trà My cinnamon, ready for harvest, are bringing stable income to many households. The strong aroma of cinnamon today is not just a characteristic scent of the vast mountains but also a symbol of this land's revival.
In addition, Sâm Ngọc Linh continues to be cultivated by the people under the canopy of primeval forests at an altitude of over 1,500m. These precious medicinal plants are gradually opening up opportunities for sustainable economic development for the Ca Dong and Xơ Đăng people here. Many families in Bằng La have not only escaped poverty but have also begun to save and invest in their children's future.
Towards a Safe and Sustainable Future
To protect the achievements of revival, a system of anti-landslide embankments along the river has been invested in and built, contributing to reducing the risk of natural disasters for the new residential area. Trà Leng today has not only changed its appearance but is also gradually forming a more stable development foundation for the highland people. The image of children happily going to school, Ca Dong women weaving brocade on the porch of their new homes, or green cinnamon forests stretching across the mountains are clear evidence of the vitality returning to this place.
From the mud after the natural disaster, Trà Leng has risen with resilience and human kindness. And Bằng La today is not just a resettlement area, but also a symbol of faith, solidarity, and the journey of revival of the highlands amidst the vast Central Vietnamese mountains.
